56 That is the number of tweets Mr. Shawn Corey Carter (Jay-Z) had before he “crashed the internet with hash tags and retweets” literally. Jay-Z also know as Hov created “New Rules” when he released his 12th studio album entitled Magna Carta Holy Grail (July 4th). The 43 year old rapper, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist became a member of one of the top leading social media sites (Twitter) in 2008; with his first tweet being: “This is Hov… Ahmir! Half! Haa”. Tweets came less often with him only highlighting things like sports, his creations, album drops, his wife, and tweets to passing artist. That all changed today. Twitter Confirmed that Mr. Carter Personally tweeted those tweets.

Today, Mr. Carter proved to us why “Genius” is the only words in his Bio. Why? Because if you do not know by now, Mr. Carter is not very fond of the press or media. He and his family (Beyonce and Blue Ivy) go to extremes to keep their names, and faces out of the light of the camera; only when necessary. Also by holding (what I like to call) an online press conference, allowing the world to interview him, he alone was in control over what was said when it was released; a very smart move. He even says “Any interview request please refer to THIS session…[no shots Elliot #factsonly]” (I’m going to assume he is talking about Hip-Hop Journalist Elliot Wilson). Additionally, Jay’s tweets gave us much personality. He showed his humorous side and came off as a really down to earth guy next door.

Jay-Z’s world wide online press conference started at 11:12 am when he responded with “YES, *my laugh” to @brianfagioli who had asked the question: “Why do I care that you wear Tom Ford? I wear Hanes pocket t-shirts…should I write a song about it too?” Questions and desperate pleas for retweets and mentions began to pour in as well as speculation. Was it really Mr. Carter tweeting or not? The account answered yes to those questions and said that their would be “many more”. The Billionaire, live tweeting with the world, revealed a lot about his album, including interesting thoughts and motives behind some of the songs. He speaks about him having real competition with MCHG (Magna Carta Holy Grail) and his releasing of footage of him working with Nas in the studio. He also talks about how Human Nature is one of his favorite Michael Jackson songs, how he is currently listening to James Blake, and how “Blue (his daughter) is a Giants fan”.

One of those thoughts got twitter buzzing with the discussion of Miley Cyrus when @youngstacks92 asked “You really think Miley Cyrus still twerking somewhere in America?” and Jay-Z responded with “yes! She represents an old worlds worst nightmare”. The buzz grew so loud that Miley Cyrus tweeted “Call it what you want. But I don’t see Mr. Carter shoutin any of you B****es out. #twerkmileytwerk”. Of course Jay-Z retweeted her with his trending hash tag #factsonly. While other tabloid blogs called it a “Diss”, Miley didn’t think so as she said “out with the old and in with the new”. Other buzz worthy tweets included a “where is amil” tweet to which Jay responded with “Spend it” (as if the question was about money) … then, “NVM” (never mind).
